Pewsey Parish Council provides statutory services and support to the village of Pewsey. It is a community based local authority, with volunteer councillors, being the most accessible tier of local government.
The village lies in the stunning Vale of Pewsey, situated in the eastern half of the county of Wiltshire and within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This ancient and historic settlement was once part of the seat of the Anglo-Saxon King Alfred, with his famous statue sited in the Market Place. The River Avon meanders through the village which is overlooked to the south by the Pewsey White Horse, and to the north by the Kennet and Avon Canal and Martinsell Hill.
Pewsey is the service centre for the Vale of Pewsey having schools, a doctor and dentist surgeries, a thriving Post Office, a variety of shops, numerous sport facilities, clubs and groups. Pewsey’s transport links are good, having a mainline station from London Paddington through to the West Country and bus routes to Marlborough, Swindon and Salisbury.
The village is the home of Wiltshire’s oldest carnival where for two weeks every September the village goes “carnival crazy”.
