The Scotchel

The Scotchel

Nestled between Broomcroft Road and Buckleaze Lane in the heart of the village, The Scotchel Nature Reserve is a much-loved green space owned, managed, and maintained by Pewsey Parish Council.

The land was generously bequeathed to the parish in 1982 by Miss Middlemass and has since been carefully developed into a peaceful nature reserve and trail. Today, it offers a tranquil haven for wildlife and people alike. The River Avon meanders gently through the reserve, with a public footpath running alongside it, making it a favourite route for walkers and nature lovers.

The Scotchel is cherished for its calm atmosphere and natural beauty. Local residents, Parish Councillors, and contractors work together to manage its day-to-day upkeep, ensuring it remains a welcoming space for everyone.

In recent years, the Pewsey Avon River Restoration Group (PARR) has enhanced the area further by planting native species in and along the riverbanks to boost biodiversity and support local habitats.

The Parish Council is also deeply grateful to the many individuals who help keep the Scotchel clean and beautiful by regularly picking up litter. Your care and commitment help preserve this special place for future generations.
